Fans will mark 2025 as the year the Michelle Williams worlds finally collided.
This Thursday (April 17), singer Michelle Williams shared a video following her performance in Broadway’s Death Becomes Her, featuring none other than her famous namesake, actress Michelle Williams.
The Destiny’s Child alum took to Instagram posting a clip from her dressing room where she playfully pretended to sign autographs on photos of the actress. She then turned the camera to reveal her Academy Award-nominated doppelgänger.
“Who should I make it out to?” the actress asked, to which the singer quipped, “Would you make them out to me?”
Another video circulating on social media captures the two sharing the stage at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, with the caption reading, “OMG, I just watched Michelle Williams meet Michelle Williams at Death Becomes Her.”
It seems the photos the singer jokingly signs are ones she recently got from a confused admirer who mixed her up with the actress.
“‘Dear Michelle Williams, I hope this letter finds you in great spirits,'” she revealed in an Instagram video posted on March 10. “‘My name is Philip, and I have been an avid fan of your incredible performances in both film and theater.'”
“‘Your work in movies like Blue Valentine, Manchester by the Sea, or The Greatest Showman has deeply moved me and many others, showcasing your exceptional talent,'” he went on. “‘I am writing to kindly ask if you would consider signing the enclosed photos I have of you. Having your autograph would mean so much for me and my daughter, as we admire your artistry.'”
Williams thanked the fan before adding, “Absolutely brilliant. Her hair is fabulous.”
Both women shot to fame in the 1990s, with the singer rising as part of Destiny’s Child while the actress gained stardom on Dawson’s Creek. The confusion has only grown over the years, with the singer branching into musical theater with roles in Chicago and Once on This Island, while the actress also blended acting and singing in musicals like Cabaret and Blackbird.
