You can now count Wiz Khalifa among those who think the Earth is flat.
During a recent episode of the Joe Budden Podcast (currently only available to Patreon members), the rapper was asked if the “earth was round.”
“I would say no,” Khalifa replied. “I just believe that we live on a flat plane. It’s only because I’ve traveled so much.”
When Budden asked if he ever reached the edge of the earth, Wiz replied, “No, it’s not that. I think that there’s more masses than just what we see. It was one thing before and it’s like spread out.”
“Because when I travel the routes that we take and how we do it, it’s not possible to go up and down—you’re just going straight,” he explained later in the show. “I never looped around. I never was on one place and then went to the other coast from that place. You always go the long way.”
According to Dr. James Garvin, an Earth and Planetary scientist from NASA, our understanding of Earth as a sphere goes back thousands of years when ancient civilizations like the Greeks and Egyptians observed celestial movements and shadows. This knowledge was later confirmed by early sailors who navigated the globe, proving Earth’s curvature by successfully circumnavigating it, something impossible on a flat planet.
Since then, the space age of the 1950s and 60s allowed humans to see Earth from space, clearly showing its round shape.
Despite mountains of scientific proof that Earth is round, flat Earth beliefs have made a comeback among young Americans due to growing distrust in experts, according to the University of Melbourne.
Wiz now joins other celebrities who’ve endorsed this conspiracy theory, including B.o.B and Kyrie Irving.
During a September 2024 episode of Complex’s GOAT Talk, Shaq revealed that sharing his flat Earth beliefs cost him a $20 million deal with an unnamed company. You can check out that episode here.
