Young Thug, who just announced his new album UY Scuti and dropped its first single “Money on Money,” has finally responded to being mentioned in Kendrick Lamar’s brutal Drake diss “Not Like Us.” In a conversation with Zach Baron for GQ, Thugger was asked if he stayed up-to-date with hip-hop while locked up.
During most of Thug’s jail time during the extended YSL RICO case, hip-hop news was dominated by the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef. Thug, along with several other rappers, got name-checked in K Dot’s knockout blow, “Not Like Us.”
“Yeah, [Kendrick] just spoke on people’s name in Atlanta,” Thug said, diplomatically, when asked how he felt about Atlanta getting “dragged” into the beef. “I don’t know what that was about. I’m a Drake fan.”
In the third verse of “Not Like Us,” Kendrick mentioned several prominent Atlanta rappers who’ve collaborated with Drake, and claimed he used them to boost his image or streaming numbers.
“You run to Atlanta when you need a check balance/Let me break it down for you, this the real n***a challenge,” he raps. “You called Future when you didn’t see the club/Lil Baby helped you get your lingo up/21 gave you false street cred/Thug made you feel like you a slime in your head/Quavo said you can be from Northside/2 Chainz say you good, but he lied/You run to Atlanta when you need a few dollars/No, you not a colleague, you a fuckin’ colonizer.”
Thug has worked with Drake extensively throughout his career, and even called for Drake, Future, and Metro Boomin to patch things up last year. “@Drake @1future @MetroBoomin we all bruddas. Music aint the same without us collabin,” he wrote. He didn’t, however, directly address the Drake and Kendrick beef. Before that, Thug’s partner Mariah the Scientist said that Thug “fucks with everybody” involved in the feud.
