Nelly and Ashanti are about to give fans a peek behind the curtain of their relationship with a fresh reality TV show on Peacock.
This Friday (May 9), the streaming platform announced that the newlyweds will star in Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together, set to drop next month. The eight-episode series will take viewers along as the couple navigates married life together.
“*Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together…*follows the electrifying journey of this beloved couple as they reignite their love, navigate the ups and downs of newlywed life, and the challenges of parenthood while juggling their thriving careers,” according to a press release about the upcoming show. “Can this unstoppable duo prove that their love truly can conquer all? A fun-filled exploration of love’s second chances.”
Nelly first crossed paths with Ashanti at the Grammy Awards in 2003 and they started dating soon after. The pair split in 2013 but eventually found their way back to each other, reportedly reconnecting at Ja Rule and Fat Joe’s Verzuz battle in 2021. They confirmed they were an item again in September 2023. The following April, they announced their engagement and that they were expecting a baby – though they’d actually been legally married for several months by then. During an appearance on The Bootleg Kev Podcast, Nelly revealed he married Ashanti because he didn’t want her to be a “baby mama.”
“Once we found out that she was pregnant, I was just like, yeah, we hadn’t talked about any of that yet,” he explained. “But I was like, ‘Yo, you know what. Let’s just knock this out because we’re gonna be doing so much, and everything’s moving so fast.’ And I didn’t want her to be a baby mama.”
The couple welcomed their son, Kareem Kenkaide Hayes, on July 18, 2024.
