Doja Cat showed off her acting and improvisation skills during a recent livestream.
While entertaining fans on Instagram Live by acting out funny scenarios, Doja jumped into an impromptu performance after a viewer challenged her to “Act like my husband is gay.”
She got into character by removing her glasses and started with a gentle, “Hey. You look nice. Yeah, I mean, I’m not looking at you like anything.”
In a moment that brought to mind Doechii’s “Denial Is a River,” Doja’s character nervously went on, “I mean, I will be honest. I feel like … there’s something you might not be telling me.”
From there she set the scene of a 3 a.m. confrontation, adding, “We were supposed to eat at like 9 like we always do, and you’re out. I’m up because I’m worried. You didn’t text me back.”
When her imaginary scene partner gets defensive in the silence, her character snaps back, “Okay, look, I saw it. Yes, the messages.”
“Well, you leave your laptop open!” Doja said before breaking character and bursting into laughter. She could barely keep a straight face when she attempted to say, “I found his Grindr.”
Further into the stream, a fan asked Doja if she herself was on the gay dating app.
“Am I on Grindr?” she read aloud before giving a blank stare to the camera and quietly taking a sip from her drink.
Before launching her upcoming fifth studio album Vie, Doja gave her fans a treat with the single “Crack,” which was offered as a free download from her website for a limited 24-hour period.
She also debuted the track live during her Sunday performance at the Wango Tango festival in Huntington Beach, California.
