Cam’ron has shared that he went head-to-head with Diddy on Mase’s behalf to help get his publishing rights returned.
During a recent episode of It Is What It Is, Mase had questioned Cam about what happened between him and Diddy when they crossed paths on a boat. Based on Cam’s story, Mase had instructed him to approach the music executive about getting his publishing rights back, and being a loyal friend, Cam followed through on the request.
Cam explained that Diddy was interested in making an offer for their popular podcast It Is What It Is, and Mase was willing to listen to what the embattled mogul had in mind. But Mase wanted Cam to first sort out the situation with his publishing rights—a problem Mase had been battling for years.
“Word to everything I love you said tell the n***a I want my publishing,” Cam recounted. “Puff wanted to make an offer for It Is What It Is and you told me to go see how much he was talking about […] Then when I tell the n***a I’m on the boat, he pull up on his boat, ‘Listen, what’s the business, what’s happening,’ this that and the third […] but you sent me to do something and I did it and that was that. Got your publishing back, though; I ain’t taking credit or nothing.”
Mase was under contract with Diddy and became one of the biggest stars on Bad Boy Records in the late 90s. But their relationship became strained due to business disagreements, with Mase alleging that Diddy took financial advantage of him.
Specifically, Mase claimed Diddy only offered him $20,000 for his publishing rights even though he had generated millions of dollars for Bad Boy Records. Mase has continually pushed for the return of his publishing and called out Diddy for talking about supporting Black artists while supposedly exploiting them.
Diddy resolved the issue in September 2023 by giving back the publishing rights to multiple Bad Boy Records artists, including Mase, Faith Evans, 112, The Lox, and the estate of The Notorious B.I.G. Cam’ron marked the occasion with an Instagram post promoting his project, The Lost Files.
“My n***a murder had to sit this one out,” Cam posted. “He just got his publishing back from Puff. Just finished the paper work for that yesterday,” he explained in the caption. “Congrats @rsvpmase while he getting his music back in order, I’m dumping my hard drive pause. The lost files vol 1. Sept 8.”
