Duane “Keefe D” Davis recently suffered a setback in his murder case after a judge ruled that his 2008 police interview regarding Tupac Shakur’s death can be used as evidence. Speaking with 8 News Now Las Vegas, Davis said he has no intention of accepting a plea deal despite the latest developments in the trial.
“I didn’t do nothing,” Keefe D told investigator Vanessa Murphy. “I’m 63. I had a cancer battle. And I got three stents to my heart, and the average American lives like 74 years old. 10 years, I’m dead. So why would I take a deal? I heard it was, like, 10 and 25. I’m not going to do that. I’m not going to take a deal like that. Especially after I haven’t done it. I’m an innocent man.”
Meanwhile, Davis continued to deny involvement in Tupac’s murder and claimed he was not in Nevada when the shooting happened. He also argued that his previous statements confessing to the killing were motivated by money.
“I was just after the money, and they said I was covered,” he claimed while maintaining his innocence. “I did it for the money… That was the ghostwriters that did it. I didn’t write that book… Just read the book. You know I didn’t write that book. And the [DJ] Vlad thing, the lady, she gave me $150,000… They wrote me a script to follow. My lawyer came with the script, and it seemed like he was in bed with them the whole time.”
Keefe D said he was simply trying to provide for his family and denied having any gang involvement since 1989. He also discussed his role in helping Suge Knight establish Death Row Records, using that history as a reason why he would not have wanted to harm the label’s biggest star.
“Why would I kill the guy that’s making us the most money? […] It don’t make sense. Suge Knight will tell you that I didn’t do it,” Davis stated.
The 63-year-old also shared that he remains hopeful about his case while expressing regret for putting his family through the situation. Jury selection for the trial is reportedly set to begin on August 10.
With Keefe D and his legal team continuing to challenge the allegations, it remains to be seen whether the plea deal discussions will change. Otherwise, the full jury trial is expected to move forward soon unless additional delays occur.
