Logic Confesses to “Half-Assing” Tracks Just to Exit Def Jam Contract

Logic is keeping it real about his time at Def Jam, revealing that he intentionally “half-assed” a few tracks just to wrap up his deal with the label.

In the “Discussion 4” skit on his new collaborative album Live and in Color with Juicy J, the two artists get candid about friendship, creativity, and staying authentic in their work.

“I don’t half-ass anything,” Logic says—before admitting, “The only time I ever half-assed some shit was when I was trying to get out of my Def Jam deal. I was like, take these songs and get the fuck out of here.”

Logic hasn’t held back when it comes to his frustrations with Def Jam—and now, he’s shedding even more light on how things went down.

During a skit on his new album Live and in Color with Juicy J, Logic admitted he “half-assed” some tracks just to wrap up his contract with the label. “The only time I ever half-assed some shit was when I was trying to get out of my Def Jam deal,” he said. “I was like, take these songs and get the fuck out of here.”

This isn’t the first time he’s put the label on blast. Back in 2022, he publicly slammed Def Jam for botching his release strategy. “Def Jam, why you fucking up my releases, man?” he vented in a video. “I told them I wanted to drop a two-pack—they dropped two singles at the same time. What kind of shit is that?”

That same year, Logic dropped Vinyl Days, his final Def Jam album—recorded in just 12 days. On the Impaulsive podcast, he confirmed it was a quick-fire project to meet his contract requirements and walk away on a high note. “That’s my favorite part—I’m off Def Jam,” he said. “And guess what? I left them with some of the dopest shit I could give them.”

Juicy J, during the same “Discussion 4” skit, didn’t hold back on the praise, even comparing Logic to the King of Pop. “Michael Jackson was a superstar. Logic is a superstar. Juicy J is a superstar,” he declared.

Logic’s been surprising folks in more ways than one lately. In May, he joined influencer Bobbi Althoff for The Really Good Podcast, where she was floored by how much he spends on office supplies. Logic showed off a gold Montblanc pencil and a luxury notebook, casually revealing, “It’s 250 bucks.”

When asked why, he kept it simple: “I can afford it.” But he also explained his mindset: investing in quality over quantity. “I used to clown people for buying stuff like Supreme and Louis Vuitton. But now I get it—buy one amazing briefcase that’ll last a lifetime instead of 10 that’ll fall apart.”

He also emphasized that his spending doesn’t stop him from giving back. “I donate to organizations, help single mothers… all types of things like that with my money.”
