Angela Simmons Opens Up About Yo Gotti Split, Says She’s in Her ‘Healing Season’

Angela Simmons has confirmed her split from Yo Gotti after more than two years together.

During her appearance on the Angie Martinez IRL podcast on Wednesday, June 18, Simmons opened up about the breakup, sharing that she’s currently in a “growing season” and a “healing season.”

“I’m transforming into the next part of myself,” she said, embracing what she called her “single girl era.”

Though she didn’t dive into specifics, the Run’s House alum revealed she was the one who ended the relationship. “I wouldn’t have chose it, but it was what was best,” Simmons admitted, adding that she still has “respect” for the Memphis rapper despite the split.

Angela Simmons didn’t hold back in sharing her truth about her breakup with Yo Gotti during the latest episode of the Angie Martinez IRL podcast.

“I could have probably been in and out of like four or five other relationships,” she said. “People would have never known and gotten my feelings hurt or not or whatever. And I just wouldn’t speak on it because some stuff is just better left unsaid.”

The Angela’s Cakes founder also opened up about the challenges of being in a relationship where men often fall for the version of her they see on TV. Gotti famously called Simmons his “crush” back in 2016 on his hit “Down in the DM.”

“Then you get in a relationship with me and you’re like, ‘Oh, I thought you were like this,’” Simmons explained. “I’m like, ‘Bro, that was five seconds of my life.’ This is who I am.”

Despite the breakup, Simmons reflected positively on her time with Gotti, noting they created “great, beautiful memories” together. All the sweet moments fans saw online? “They were happening in real time,” she confirmed.

Gotti went all out for her 37th birthday last September—lavish gifts and a vacation included—but things have since changed. Post-split, Simmons said she’s “always healing” and working through it all, adding she’s not ruling out future public relationships completely: “Never say never.”

She also had advice for anyone struggling after a breakup: “Go get some help. Go get your friends. Go pull yourself together. Do something for yourself.”

Last month, fans speculated about the breakup after Simmons posted a cryptic message to her IG Stories: “I want what wants me in life. In all areas. What flows FLOWS. What goes GOES.”

Simmons was previously engaged to Sutton Tennyson, who was tragically killed in 2018. The two share a son, Sutton Joseph Jr., born in September 2016.
