Cardi B Claps Back at Critics Over Including “WAP” and “Up” on Her Album: ‘These Songs Deserve a Home’

Cardi B’s long-anticipated second album, Am I the Drama?, was officially announced this week—and it’s bringing some familiar bangers with it, including “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion and “Up.”

After some fans questioned why the older hits made the cut, Cardi hopped on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday to set the record straight. She reminded everyone that both tracks were massive chart-toppers and said they “deserve a home” on the album.

The “Outside” rapper pointed out that since her 2018 debut Invasion of Privacy, she’s only dropped singles and features here and there—making this full project a long time coming for her fans.

“I let haters stop me from submitting WAP for the Grammys, and now I’m just giving my fans what they want!” Cardi wrote.

Cardi B shut down the chatter around including “WAP” and “Up” on Am I the Drama?, especially the claims that she’s trying to inflate her debut week numbers. “These two songs don’t even count for first week sales so what yall even crying about???” she fired off. “Do ya say anything when all these artist pull out all their little trucks and ponies to sell out???”

She wrapped the message with a bold mic drop: “Exactly….Now let them eat cake. Go cry about it!!!”

Am I the Drama? is set to drop on September 19.

Earlier in the week, Cardi also opened up on Instagram—this time about life post-divorce. In a candid Live session, she talked about her rollout plans for the physical editions of the album and took a moment to thank fans for showing love to her new single “Outside.” The conversation eventually turned personal, with Cardi reflecting on the power of getting back out there after being “cuffed up too long”—a theme that ties directly into her new track.
