John Legend wants the record clear—he smells great, regardless of what Kanye West once claimed.
The comment in question? Ye once joked in an interview with DJ Akademiks that Legend “smells like mashed potatoes.” While mashed potatoes are hardly offensive in the scent world, the remark was widely interpreted as a subtle dig.
Still, Legend isn’t sweating it. He made sure to shut down the notion with a confident, “Obviously, I smell great.”
The interview where Ye made the mashed potatoes comment dropped back in March and featured him speaking to DJ Akademiks while dressed in all-black, KKK-style attire—echoing the controversial imagery from his 2013 “Black Skinhead” video.
“They say he smells like mashed potatoes,” Ye remarked. “I don’t know where I got this from.”
