DDG Hits Up Larrance ‘Rance’ Dopson on Livestream to Learn Beat-Making

DDG reached out to Larrance “Rance” Dopson, the mastermind behind live hip-hop collective 1500 or Nothin’, asking him to show him the ropes of beat production.

While hanging at a party during a recent livestream, DDG approached Rance and shared his creative vision with the respected bandleader and producer. DDG straight-up told him, “I had an idea, bro; I want to learn how to make beats.” Rance responded by mentioning that his 1500 crew runs a school where young people can dive into production skills. DDG was totally into this concept and pushed to make it happen on an upcoming stream.

Rance vibed with the suggestion and let DDG know it would take roughly a week to grasp the fundamentals and another week to actually become a legitimate producer. DDG was completely down for it, explaining he just needed to pick up the basics, with Rance emphasizing that learning piano skills would be absolutely life-changing for him.

DDG is about to get a serious education from Rance, who’s not just any producer but a four-time Grammy Award winner and accomplished instrumentalist. The man has put in over two decades in the industry, collaborating with major stars like Rihanna, Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Justin Timberlake, Chris Stapleton, Cardi B and many others.

Rance teamed up with James Fauntleroy to create the 1500 Sound Academy, where they personally guide up-and-coming creatives and help mold the future sound of music.
