Justin Timberlake is making moves to keep police body cam footage from his 2024 drunk driving arrest out of the public eye.
According to TMZ, Timberlake’s attorneys filed a complaint on Monday in Suffolk County Supreme Court in New York, arguing that the video from his June 18, 2024 arrest in Sag Harbor would amount to “an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy” if released.
Timberlake previously settled the case in September 2024 through a plea deal, which reduced the original DWI charge to a lesser traffic violation. As part of that resolution, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office reportedly agreed to seal the footage.
“The harm from public exposure—stigma, harassment, reputational injury, and the permanent loss of privacy—is immediate and irreparable,” his legal team stated in court documents, according to NBC News.
Even so, several media outlets are said to be pursuing access to the video, prompting Timberlake to take additional legal steps to block its release.
Suffolk County Acting Supreme Court Justice Joseph Farneti has reportedly held off on issuing a decision to give both sides time to negotiate. Vincent Toomey, an attorney for the Village of Sag Harbor, told NBC that “Mr. Timberlake sought a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to prevent the Village from doing so.”
Justin Timberlake’s arrest quickly became meme material online, largely due to a reported exchange between him and the arresting officer. According to accounts of the incident, Timberlake allegedly said the arrest would “ruin the tour,” prompting the officer to respond, “What tour?” Timberlake reportedly shot back, “The world tour.”
The moment sparked plenty of jokes across social media, with users poking fun at the awkward back-and-forth.
The former *NSYNC star was referring to his The Forget Tomorrow World Tour, marking his first global tour in five years.
