Mark Lee Parts Ways With SM Entertainment, Announces Departure From NCT 127 and NCT Dream

K-pop star Mark Lee has revealed he’s stepping away from NCT 127 and NCT Dream following the end of his contract with SM Entertainment.

As reported by Billboard, the singer and rapper—known simply as Mark—is closing this chapter a decade after first signing with the label.

“After a long period of in-depth discussions with MARK regarding the direction of his future activities and following adequate conversations between both parties, we came to a mutual agreement to conclude his exclusive contract as of April 8,” the company shared in a statement. “Accordingly, MARK will end all NCT activities, including NCT 127 and NCT DREAM.”

SM Entertainment also commended Lee for displaying “outstanding abilities” both as part of NCT and as a solo act, adding that they’re excited to see what he does next.

Moving forward, NCT Dream will carry on as a six-member group, while NCT 127 will continue with seven members.

“Out of all the things my heart wants to say right now, I truly wish to say thank you,” Lee said in a statement. “Thank you for loving, supporting, and shaping me to become who I am today. I truly believe that our hearts have better sight than our eyes, and what my heart sees right now isn’t a closing door but rather an opening a new one.”

Mark Lee also shared that he’ll “never forget” the love he’s received from both his bandmates and fans. “I’m not playing here, and I am for sure not playing with your guys’ hearts,” he said. “You guys make me want to be a better person, and I hope my decision in life can only become a positive impact to anyone watching. I’m truly and always thinking about you guys.”

Beyond NCT 127 and NCT Dream, Lee was also part of SuperM, a unit formed under SM Entertainment featuring members from EXO and SHINee. He later stepped out on his own with his debut solo album The Firstfruit, released in April 2025.

Looking ahead, NCT 127 is gearing up for a return with new music in 2026, and the group is also set to headline the KCON LA this August.
