Pharrell Williams-Backed Miami Hotel Faces $150 Million Foreclosure Threat

While Pharrell Williams isn’t directly named in the lawsuit, his early involvement with The Goodtime Hotel was centered around its dining and entertainment offerings.

Pharrell has built an impressive empire across music and fashion, but he also dipped into real estate by backing the Miami-based Goodtime Hotel in South Beach. Now, just five years after opening its doors, the property is reportedly staring down a $150 million foreclosure threat.

According to The Miami Herald, Pharrell isn’t listed as a defendant in the case. The same goes for David Grutman, the hospitality mogul behind LIV nightclub. Both were publicly tied to the project as co-developers and partners when it launched, but it’s unclear how deep their involvement went beyond the hotel’s food and entertainment side—or whether they had any financial stake. A rep has reportedly stated they’ve had no involvement with the hotel since mid-to-late 2024.

As for the foreclosure situation, it stems from a claim filed by CIM Group through one of its California-based funds. The firm alleges that the hotel’s owner, Washington Squared—controlled by Dreamscape Companies—has defaulted on a $152 million loan used to finance the development.

Reports say the hotel has been “operating in the red,” forcing the lender to step in and cover payroll along with other operating costs. The situation follows earlier disputes between both sides, with Dreamscape’s CEO and partners allegedly owing millions to lenders to offset losses—claims they’ve pushed back on, arguing it’s an attempt to exploit technicalities in paperwork to recover more than what’s actually owed.

Even though this situation doesn’t directly involve Pharrell Williams, it still puts a spotlight on questions surrounding The Goodtime Hotel’s past and how it was financed. Meanwhile, Pharrell has a separate legal issue on his hands—this one hitting much closer to home.

Chad Hugo has taken legal action against his longtime Neptunes partner, accusing him of unpaid royalties, missing songwriting credits, and more. It’s an unfortunate turn, especially considering the duo’s iconic run together over the years.

Pharrell’s legal team has since responded, stating that “a standard accounting review is already in progress.” They also argued that “the lawsuit filed is premature as there may not even be a dispute between the parties. If the accounting review determines that money is owed, the appropriate party will pay it. Pharrell has consistently acted in good faith. He has great respect for Chad and looks forward to resolving this in a way that honors their shared history.”
