YNW Melly’s mom recently sparked hope about his possible release, making this latest bond update feel timely—even if it hasn’t played out yet.
The rapper has spent the past seven years behind bars, navigating a tough legal journey. After his double murder trial ended in a mistrial in 2023, he’s now pushing once again for bond ahead of a potential 2027 retrial. But with rumors spreading that his request had already been denied, Melly decided to speak up directly from jail.
As spotted by No Jumper on Instagram, he shared this message on his Story on Saturday, May 2: “Bond was not denied Fake News. Still waiting [prayer hands emoji] God 1st.”
According to Bryson Paul on Twitter, Judge Martin S. Fein chose to hold off on making a decision regarding the Florida rapper’s bond request on Friday, May 1—which also happened to be Melly’s 27th birthday. A final ruling is expected at a later date.
His past three bond attempts, previously reviewed by Judge Fein and Judge John Murphy III, didn’t go in his favor.
Still, for fans keeping close tabs, the timing of this latest development isn’t surprising. Melly’s mother had recently hinted that he could be coming home soon, aligning with this new push for bond. Now, it’s just a waiting game to see if things turn out differently this time—or if he’ll remain behind bars.
YNW Melly is accused of killing his friends YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser back in October 2018. Prosecutors have yet to establish a clear motive, while the evidence from both sides continues to evolve as the case unfolds. Authorities allege that he worked with another associate, YNW Bortlen, to stage the incident as a drive-by shooting.
There’s also been chatter surrounding the upcoming retrial, including claims that his mother may have worn a wire in an attempt to capture a statement that could help his case and potentially reduce his sentence. However, that narrative could end up having unintended consequences once proceedings wrap. For now, those reports remain unconfirmed, as official updates on the retrial have been slow-moving and complicated. Whether Melly chooses to address things again publicly or leaves it all to his legal team remains to be seen.
