Rick Ross Says He Doesn’t Want Drake to Fall: “My N***a, Shine”

Rick Ross has shown love to Drake, even though he chose not to play his records during his recent VERZUZ showdown with French Montana.

Speaking on the Friday (May 8) episode of Apple Music’s Rap Life Review after the latest VERZUZ event, Rozay broke down why he left Drizzy’s tracks out of his set.

He explained it came down to his mindset as a “boss,” adding: “Drake, if you listening to this homie, listen to me, my n***a, shine. I don’t want to see you lose. No real n***a want to see you lose. That ain’t what about. This culture, this game, this rap this ain’t what it’s about.”

Ross and Drake built a strong run of collaborations over the years, linking up on tracks like “Aston Martin Music,” “Stay Schemin'” (which also featured French Montana), “Money in the Grave,” among others.

Their relationship, however, took a turn in 2024 during Drake’s heated clash with Kendrick Lamar. Around that time, Ross called out his former collaborator, accusing him of being disloyal and relying on ghostwriters.

Elsewhere during his Rap Life Review appearance, Ross shared that he told DJ Nasty he’d still perform certain tracks, just “minus the Drake vocals,” while also making it clear that French Montana has no issue with Drizzy. “It’s deeper than rap,” Ross added.

“We never said weren’t qualified,” he continued. “But homie, what we was saying was at the time was speaking for you.”

Ross also reflected on how French Montana first connected him with Drake before the Toronto star reached diamond-certified heights. Still, the “Hustlin'” rapper couldn’t resist adding a jab, joking that they met back when Drake had a “big nose.”
