After a strange situation involving Kendrick Lamar’s catalog on Monday, Adin Ross jumped into the conversation with a wild theory of his own.
Fans were left confused after Kendrick’s album GNX suddenly disappeared from Apple Music alongside the Drake diss track Euphoria. Shortly after, the music videos for Not Like Us and luther were also removed from YouTube.
The videos eventually returned to the platform, though their view counts had been reset, while “Euphoria” and GNX slowly reappeared on Apple Music. Although the issue was eventually resolved, the brief disappearance sparked a flood of online theories about why the content had been removed in the first place.
Some social media users speculated the situation could be connected to a catalog or record deal transfer. Others, however, weren’t buying that explanation. Adin Ross, for example, claimed Kendrick Lamar is allegedly “running scared” ahead of Drake’s upcoming release, ICEMAN.
According to Ross, Kendrick supposedly panicked over the release and rushed to remove “Not Like Us” before Drake drops the project on Friday.
The claim quickly came across as far-fetched, especially considering the music video was eventually re-uploaded. On top of that, Not Like Us was never actually removed from streaming services, as it remained available on Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, and several other platforms throughout the situation.
One of the more eyebrow-raising comments from Adin Ross was his suggestion that Kendrick Lamar only has one true classic album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City. Many fans would easily argue that To Pimp a Butterfly and DAMN. have already earned classic status as well. Some listeners even believe GNX could eventually age into one of the standout projects in Lamar’s catalog.
Still, it’s obvious the narratives and online debates are only going to intensify as the week continues. With ICEMAN on the horizon, many of Drake’s supporters are already hyping up the release in a major way. And judging by the current discourse, things could get even louder once the project officially arrives.
