Fabolous Believes Most Rap Beefs Start Over Women, Not Money.
The “Make Me Better” rapper shared his thoughts on the root of many hip-hop rivalries during an appearance on the Thursday (June 11) episode of Way Up With Angela Yee, alongside the Let’s Rap About It podcast team.
As the conversation turned to ongoing tensions within the rap world, Fabolous offered what he called the “real tea” around the 31-minute mark of the interview.
According to the Brooklyn rapper, “95 percent of the time,” rap feuds are actually “about bitches.”
“It’s mostly [about] women more than money,” Fab explained. “’Cause everybody’s getting money in their own way in their own lane.”
Jim Jones jumped into the conversation, suggesting that some rap feuds begin when one artist ends up with a woman others couldn’t attract.
“They might be mad at you for getting a bitch that they know they could never get. But now you got the bitch and then they just mad at you,” Jim said.
Fabolous responded with a laugh, calling them “very tender situations.”
“Tenderism,” he joked.
When Angela Yee pointed out that she had never heard of Fabolous feuding with another rapper over a woman, the Brooklyn MC explained that he’s simply “not tender.”
“We’re in a time [where] women are choosing, and they have freedom to do what they want. So I’m not beefing with people over a woman,” he said.
Fab went on to explain that if a situation involving a woman ever created tension with another rapper, he’d rather have a conversation than turn it into a musical rivalry.
“If there’s a disagreement, we can talk about it,” he suggested, making it clear he’s not interested in “trying to rap and go at people.”
His comments echo remarks made earlier this year by A$AP Rocky, who claimed his longstanding issues with Drake stemmed from “females” following years of speculation surrounding Rihanna, with whom Rocky shares three children.
Drake and the Barbadian superstar had an on-again, off-again relationship between 2009 and 2016.
Speaking on The Ebro Show, Rocky addressed the situation directly.
“I feel like he wasn’t happy and he expressed that,” Rocky said of the Iceman rapper. “When everybody getting older, and it’s just like you supposed to be moving on, for you to still be picking at a female and all that, that’s soft to me.”
