Takeoff’s parents are locked in a legal battle over the distribution of a confidential wrongful death settlement nearly four years after the rapper’s death.
According to TMZ, Takeoff’s mother, Titania Davenport, and his father, Kenneth Ball, are disputing how the settlement funds should be divided. The payout stems from the wrongful death lawsuit Davenport filed against 810 Billiards & Bowling, the Houston venue where the Migos rapper was fatally shot in November 2022.
In court documents, Davenport described the bond she shared with her son, born Kirsnick Khari Ball, as a “close, loving and nurturing relationship.” She said she was his primary provider throughout his childhood, adding that after Takeoff rose to fame in the 2010s, he helped support her financially by covering “most if not all of her expenses.”
Davenport also alleged in the filings that Kenneth Ball played little role in the rapper’s upbringing, claiming he was “barely present” in Takeoff’s life and provided “negligible financial support and effectively no emotional support” to The Last Rocket artist.
Ball, however, argued that his level of involvement as a parent is not relevant to the case and is seeking half of the settlement proceeds. He has also requested that the dispute be handled in Texas, where the original wrongful death lawsuit was filed. Davenport, meanwhile, wants the matter transferred to Georgia, where probate proceedings involving Takeoff’s estate are already underway in Fulton County. A judge has yet to decide how the settlement will ultimately be divided.
Ball joined the $1 million wrongful death lawsuit in late December 2023 as an intervenor, after Davenport had already filed the case. In his filing, he claimed he suffered both past and future financial losses, including funeral and burial costs, as well as the loss of support.
Takeoff was 28 years old when he died and did not leave behind a will. Patrick Xavier Clark was charged with his murder in May 2023 and is currently scheduled to stand trial in November.
