Disney is bringing back a fan favorite as it revives The Cheetah Girls franchise.
According to Variety, a new movie titled The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen has officially been approved for both Disney Channel and Disney+. Original cast members Raven-Symoné and Adrienne Bailon-Houghton, who portrayed Galleria and Chanel, are set to return for the highly anticipated reboot.
The franchise first launched with the 2003 film The Cheetah Girls, which was inspired by Deborah Gregory’s bestselling book series. It later expanded with The Cheetah Girls 2 in 2006 and The Cheetah Girls: One World in 2008.
Joining the returning cast—including Sabrina Bryan, who will make a special appearance as Dorinda—is Leah Sava Jeffries, best known for her role in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The 16-year-old will portray Faith, the daughter of Raven-Symoné’s character, Galleria. Rounding out the new generation of Cheetah Girls are Carmen Sanchez as Dior, Kaileen Chang as Ruby, and Sophie Lennon as Brooklyn.
The upcoming film follows the original Cheetah Girls as they travel to Africa with Faith and her three friends to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary.
“Along the way, these four teen girls test their friendship, find their voice, and discover the true Cheetah spirit as they save the preserve and ultimately take the stage as the new Cheetah Girls,” the official logline reads.
Filming is scheduled to kick off in South Africa later this month.
