50 Cent has hinted that he may scale back his expanding investments in Shreveport, Louisiana.
In a statement posted on Instagram, the rapper and entertainment mogul expressed frustration with unnamed individuals whom he claimed “don’t want things to get better” in the city, which has become the centerpiece of his ambitious film and television projects.
“There are people in Shreveport that just don’t want things to get better,” the Grammy-winning rapper and business mogul wrote this week. “I only make deals that make sense. I’m gonna have to pull back on the Red River! Peace.”
The comments quickly drew a response from Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux, who appeared unfazed by 50 Cent’s remarks while speaking with local outlet KSLA News 12.
As of Wednesday (July 15), Arceneaux said he had not yet spoken with 50 Cent following the Instagram post, but noted that he plans to reach out once “things cool off.”
The mayor also chose not to speculate about what may have prompted the rapper’s comments. However, he acknowledged that the executive producer of Sean Combs: The Reckoning has been under “a great deal of pressure” due to his growing slate of projects in the region.
“I consider Mr. Jackson a man of good faith, and therefore I think he is going to keep his commitments,” Arceneaux said, adding that both Shreveport and everyone involved in the developments stand to benefit from the projects.
In recent years, 50 Cent has consistently promoted Shreveport as the hub of his growing entertainment ambitions, often declaring that “all roads lead to Shreveport.” His investments in the city include a G-Unit production studio and the annual Humor & Harmony Weekend festival.
During a city council meeting last year, the rapper also highlighted a 30-year lease agreement for a planned “state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue,” describing it as a “legacy project” he hopes to leave behind.
