Trey Songz Avoids Prison Time After Pleading Guilty in Alleged New York Club Fight
Trey Songz has faced several misconduct allegations over the years, but he can now put one legal matter behind him. According to Billboard, the singer will not serve any prison time after pleading guilty in connection with an alleged altercation at a New York City nightclub last year.
A New York court sentenced Songz to one year of conditional discharge for a non-criminal violation involving second-degree harassment. He was accused of punching a man at Times Square nightclub DRAMMA, leading to his arrest in December. The case also initially included a felony charge of criminal mischief.
However, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office later dropped that charge after Trey’s attorney, Mitchell Schuster, argued that other individuals—not his client—were responsible for damaging more than $1,500 worth of hookahs, DJ equipment, and sofas at the hookah lounge Mira.
Regarding the DRAMMA incident, the singer originally faced harassment charges and misdemeanor attempted assault charges, which he pleaded guilty to in April. But after completing mental health treatment and following court-ordered requirements, the court allowed him to withdraw his assault plea and proceed only with a non-criminal harassment conviction.
“We are very pleased with this resolution,” Songz’s attorney reportedly said.
The singer will not face jail time or probation unless he encounters another legal issue within the next year.
Elsewhere, Trey Songz is taking legal action of his own rather than defending against claims. In January, the singer filed a lawsuit against the Kansas City Police Department over what he described as a wrongful arrest following an altercation at the AFC Championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills.
Authorities later dropped charges against Songz, including allegations of resisting arrest and assaulting an officer. However, he claimed officers had “physically assaulted, wrongfully arrested, handcuffed and detained” him before the charges were dismissed.
Trey Songz’s controversies have continued to make headlines, whether involving his personal life or relationships. Some of these matters have remained in court for years, while others are still awaiting a final outcome. However, in the case of the alleged New York City nightclub altercation, the situation appears to have been resolved relatively quickly.
It remains to be seen whether Songz will publicly address the sentence and the outcome of the case.
