A major remix announcement has brought back memories of one of the most difficult periods in Yung Miami’s life for some fans. Kodak Black and Lil Baby are set to appear on the upcoming remix of “Spend Dat,” but Kodak’s involvement quickly sparked discussion about the 2019 incident when he made threats toward Miami while she was pregnant, followed by the shooting she survived less than a week later.
Miami announced the lineup on Wednesday after spending the week teasing two surprise collaborators. “Wham & Yak WTF IS UPPPPPP!! Spend Dat Remix OUT THIS FRIDAY!” she wrote on X.
The remix is scheduled to arrive on August 28, as “Spend Dat” continues fueling Miami’s successful solo run and helping push the former City Girls member higher on the Billboard Hot 100.
However, Kodak’s involvement has caused some fans to hesitate for reasons that go beyond the music. While serving time in 2019, the Florida rapper released a freestyle that referenced Miami’s pregnancy with producer Southside’s child. In the track, Kodak claimed he had previously bought her a ring before making a threatening remark about harming her. Southside later responded with an angry video directed at Kodak.
The situation became even more alarming in hindsight when Miami’s Mercedes-Benz SUV was shot at just days later. According to The Miami Herald, Miami was leaving Circle House Studios in North Miami-Dade during the early hours of Aug. 6, 2019, when someone fired multiple shots at her vehicle. Miami, who was pregnant at the time, was not hurt. Police confirmed the SUV had been struck by gunfire but never linked Kodak or his freestyle to the shooting. Despite that, the two incidents have often been discussed together online.
The controversy has not led Miami to publicly address or reconsider the collaboration. Kodak remains featured on the “Spend Dat” remix alongside Lil Baby, with the track still set to drop Friday (August 28). Earlier this summer, Miami had mentioned Drake as her dream feature for a remix, but the final guest lineup has shifted attention from the release itself to discussions surrounding her decision to work with an artist who previously made public threats toward her.
