Nathan Fielder’s upcoming Elizabeth Holmes documentary has received a rating—and the reason behind it is raising some eyebrows.
The MPA has given You Can See Everything an R rating for language and some “graphic nudity.” However, the extent of the nudity, as well as who appears in it, has yet to be revealed.
The film marks Fielder’s feature directorial debut, which he co-directed with Lance Oppenheim. It follows Fielder as he moves in with Holmes and her husband, William Evans, during the 34 days leading up to her reporting to federal prison.
A24’s synopsis gives audiences a sense of what to expect from the film: “Thirty-four days before she’s sent to prison, notorious Silicon Valley founder Elizabeth Holmes invites a skeptical film crew to document her every move. What begins as an intimate portrait of an enigmatic felon becomes a mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss.”
Oppenheim and Fielder first contacted Holmes in 2023 after learning that she was searching for someone to document her life. Filming began that April under an agreement with A24 that allowed the filmmakers to walk away with the footage if they ultimately decided not to make a film.
After three years of filming, the project resulted in a 174-minute cut. The documentary was unveiled as a surprise screening at the 53rd Telluride Film Festival on Sept. 6, with attendees required to surrender their phones and having no idea what they were about to see.
Variety’s Owen Gleiberman described it as “a one-of-a-kind reality-TV-as-hangout-movie psychodrama circus,” noting that Fielder appears more interested in understanding Holmes and what drives her than in resolving questions surrounding her guilt.
Holmes is currently serving an 11-year sentence for defrauding Theranos investors. She began serving the sentence in May 2023 at the minimum-security Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas. In Dec. 2025, she formally petitioned President Donald Trump for an early release.
You Can See Everything opens in theaters Oct. 16.
