Drake has enjoyed a hugely successful year, with multiple new album releases and the buzz surrounding them further boosting his earnings. According to DJ Akademiks, the Toronto superstar is bringing in a monthly income that most artists can only dream of, a claim he made during a recent livestream with Trap Lore Ross.
Akademiks described Drake as making an “enormous amount of money” that people “don’t even believe.” Ross, referring to Akademiks as “the king pocket-watcher,” asked him to provide a conservative estimate of Drake’s monthly earnings, suggesting that $10 million would be a reasonable starting point. Akademiks dismissed that figure as far too low before offering his own estimate.
“I don’t think there’s a month that Drake don’t make 20 to 25 million [dollars], at least. I’m telling you.”
DJ Akademiks has previously made claims about Drake’s finances, including how much the rapper has spent during his ICEMAN era and his financial dealings with other rappers and celebrities. Most recently, he weighed in on the 6ix God’s standing with UMG amid his defamation lawsuit against the company, which is currently going through the appeals process.
Akademiks believes Drake’s contract with UMG will remain in place until May or June of next year. However, he also suggested that the two parties could negotiate a new deal as part of a settlement in the lawsuit. While it’s a bold prediction, anything remains possible if the financial terms are right.
Considering the Toronto superstar’s dominance and consistency over the past two decades, earning as much as $25 million monthly is an incredible feat, though hardly surprising. Drake’s impressive sales figures and sustained fan engagement play a major role in his financial success. His latest release, HABIBTI (FOMO), is projected to move 65K units in its first week and climb back to No. 2 on the Billboard charts, driven by just four new deluxe tracks.
Meanwhile, DJ Akademiks also weighed in on Drake’s music this weekend. He defended ICEMAN as his pick for album of the year, arguing that Drake currently outperforms everyone else across multiple musical styles.
Perhaps one day, the OVO mogul will open up about his finances himself. Until then, fans can only watch his earnings from the sidelines.
