Lil Wayne Reveals Who He First Wanted to Perform at His Wedding

Wedding planning can quickly become overwhelming, but Lil Wayne appears to have one important detail in mind. During the October 7 episode of The Joint Venture Show, the rapper was asked who he would like to perform at his wedding when he ties the knot with his fiancée, Madi Cannon, and his response pointed straight to an R&B legend.

“My first choice, of course, would be Miss Anita Baker,” Wayne said. However, there’s a small catch. Wayne revealed that he had heard Baker might be growing tired of performing, and he doesn’t want his wedding invitation to feel like an obligation. Should the eight-time Grammy winner decide to pass, his alternatives are still impressive, with Keith Sweat and Babyface next on his list.

Craig Carton suggested that Baker’s “Sweet Love” would be an ideal choice for the wedding, but Wayne chose not to dictate the musical details of the ceremony. Instead, he said his fiancée, Madi Cannon, would have the final say on the song.

All this wedding discussion comes shortly after Lil Wayne finally cleared up the uncertainty surrounding his relationship. On September 28, while congratulating fellow Hot Boys member B.G. on his engagement to Brooke Jones, Wayne turned the camera toward Madi Cannon and introduced her as his fiancée. “I’m marrying this one,” he said, making it clear that he was also preparing to get married.

The announcement brought an end to several confusing months surrounding the couple. Engagement rumors first emerged in the spring, but Wayne publicly denied them in July, revealing that he and Cannon had broken up. At the time, he spoke fondly of their relationship but confirmed that they had decided to go their separate ways. However, something appears to have changed in the months that followed. By late September, Cannon was back by Wayne’s side, now officially introduced as his fiancée.

The couple has yet to reveal a wedding date, meaning Anita Baker doesn’t have to clear her schedule just yet. Even so, Lil Wayne already seems to have a clear vision of the kind of celebration he wants.
