Sexyy Red is trying to figure out whether the latest news about Naruto is something fans should celebrate or worry about.
The rapper took to X on Oct. 10 to ask Naruto fans what they thought about the announcement, admitting she was confused about whether it was good news or bad news. “I’m confused is this Naruto announcement good news or????” she wrote, prompting a divided reaction from fans.
The announcement that caught her attention was revealed just hours earlier at New York Comic Con during the “NARUTO: What’s Next?” panel. The franchise unveiled a four-episode Naruto x Ninku crossover anime, along with a new manga by Masashi Kishimoto titled Shadow Rising.
Noriyuki Abe, who directed the original Ninku anime in the mid-1990s, will helm the crossover at Studio Pierrot. Tetsuya Nishio, the character designer for the original Naruto series, will serve as both chief animation director and character designer.
Kishimoto is overseeing the project alongside Ninku creator Koji Kiriyama, describing the collaboration as a way of repaying a debt.
Both titles are part of PROJECT RASENGAN, a newly announced, multi-year roadmap covering manga, anime, trading cards, and video games. The panel also confirmed that Naruto Mobile, which debuted in China in 2016, will finally receive a worldwide release.
So, what’s causing the confusion? The Shadow Rising teaser revealed no details about the plot, characters, or serialization date, while the crossover concept has divided fans who were hoping for a direct continuation of the original story. More information about what’s ahead is expected to arrive in December at Jump Festa 2027.
Fortunately, Naruto fans, including Sexyy Red, also have a live-action adaptation directed by Destin Daniel Cretton to look forward to, with the project currently in development at Lionsgate.
