Fabolous brought some humor to his Halloween celebrations this year, dressing up as Daejon Love, the man accused of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player and allegedly scamming women out of more than $1 million.
The Brooklyn rapper unveiled his costume in an Instagram post, putting a playful twist on Love’s alleged scheme while also promoting a Halloween-themed episode of his Let’s Rap About It podcast.
“Wide Deceiver for the San Francisco Finesse & Liners FABJON LOVE LET’S RAP ABOUT IT • HALLOWEEN EPISODE OUT NOW !!” he captioned the post.
Love, 35, first attracted widespread attention earlier this year when federal prosecutors accused him of using dating apps to connect with women and present himself as either a professional San Francisco 49ers football player or a wealthy real estate investor.
Authorities allege that Love and his purported accomplice, 18-year-old Taylor Jamie Chan, persuaded women to invest money in a fraudulent operation. Chan allegedly posed as Love’s financial adviser to give the scheme an appearance of legitimacy.
Investigators initially uncovered at least 26 alleged victims who collectively lost approximately $1.3 million. The FBI later discovered 35 more potential victims, pushing the number of people allegedly affected to more than 60.
“They were deliberately manipulated through an extremely sophisticated scheme that blended fake personas, fabricated investment accounts, staged video calls and AI-reinforced false identities,” Portland FBI Special Agent in Charge Doug Olson said.
Fabolous isn’t the only celebrity who has turned Love’s alleged scheme into a Halloween costume.
John Legend previously dressed up as Love while co-hosting New York City’s Tompkins Square Halloween dog parade on Oct. 17. The singer wore a complete 49ers uniform with Love’s name on the jersey, while his wife, Chrissy Teigen, went as San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Legend also stayed in character, joking about the financial promises Love allegedly made to women.
“First order of business is fixing your financial situation. If I’m coming up, I wanna take you with me,” Legend said.
The NFL also joined in on the joke, as 49ers cornerback Nate Hobbs showed up in a Love jersey at a Halloween party hosted by quarterback Brock Purdy and his wife, Jenna.
Former NFL player Logan Ryan also jumped on the trend, posting a video with the caption, “Daejon Love gave me the perfect Halloween costume.”
Love’s alleged scheme also became a subject of discussion on It Is What It Is, where Cam’ron jokingly described him as “the most famous 49er in the last two years.”
While celebrities continue to poke fun at the alleged impersonation, Love is facing serious federal charges.
He and Chan were arrested at an airport in Boise, Idaho, on Aug. 24. Love was later indicted on a conspiracy to commit wire fraud charge in October and entered a not guilty plea.
If found guilty, he could face up to 20 years in prison. His federal trial is set to begin Dec. 15.
