Katt Williams Says Kendrick Lamar Deserves Respect, Weighs In on Whether They’re ‘Kindred Spirits’

During his sit-down on the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast with Carmelo Anthony and Kid Mero, Katt Williams was asked about the comparisons between himself and Kendrick Lamar when it comes to being bold, unapologetic truth-tellers—some even labeling them “dedicated haters.”

Mero brought up Kendrick’s wild 2024 run, calling it “the summer that he absolutely destroyed Drake,” and praised how K Dot exposed a lot happening behind the scenes in the industry. Katt fully co-signed, saying Kendrick’s been “one of the top three greatest rappers from his very first project,” calling that kind of consistency “almost unheard of.”

When the hosts mentioned that many Kendrick fans are also fans of Katt, the comedian agreed and dropped a gem: “I’m not somebody you want to have beef with, it’s bad optics. I’m on the righteous side and if I make a mistake, work with me.”

He also pointed out how impressive it was that Kendrick could deliver such a powerful performance in Toronto—Drake’s home turf. “We’re not talking about Drake doing his show in LA… But we are talking about Kendrick going there and doing the body of work,” Katt said. “That’s what it means to stand on them ten… to say it as viciously as I mean to say it, to say it as accurately as I can say it. … You got to respect it.”

When Kendrick’s “biggest hater” line from “Euphoria” came up, Katt pushed back on the idea that Kendrick is actually a hater. “He was very specific, so that you understand that this not hatred,” Katt said. “He’s saying, ‘I don’t hate you, I just hate all of the choices that you make, ‘cause those are the choices that bitch-ass n***as make.’”

He added, “I’m a fan of both artists… Kendrick is not who you wanted to tussle with. We just felt like because it was Drake, he would get that exemption. But not only is he not getting that exemption, he’s under even more scrutiny.”

When asked if he considers himself a kindred spirit to Kendrick, Katt responded, “I would hope so,” referencing Kendrick’s shoutout on the GNX intro “Wacced Out Murals” where he rapped, “Make Katt Williams and them proud, the truth ‘bout to get loud.”
