The Eminem documentary Stans is set to hit AMC Theaters for an exclusive limited run next month.
According to Variety, the film dives into Slim Shady’s influence on hip-hop, told through the lens of his most passionate supporters—his “stans.” It will be shown in theaters from August 7 to August 10.
The term “stan” was born from Eminem’s 2000 track “Stan,” featuring Dido, which sampled her hit “Thank You.” The song tells the dark tale of an obsessed fan who takes his devotion to deadly extremes, even killing his pregnant girlfriend to get the rapper’s attention.
Over time, “stan” became part of pop culture, evolving into a slang term for hardcore fans of any artist—not just Em. “Stan Twitter” now refers to corners of the internet where super-fans gather and passionately support their faves.
AMC Theaters will lead the release of Stans, marking another major rollout following their work with Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance concert films.
The doc will screen exclusively at AMC from August 7 to August 10, with no discounts or promos available due to the short window. Additionally, it will have a one-week awards-qualifying run at the AMC Empire 25 in NYC’s Times Square.
Global fans won’t be left out—Trafalgar Releasing is handling international distribution, bringing Stans to 1,600 theaters across 50 countries.
Using a mix of dramatizations, never-before-seen footage, and fresh interviews, the documentary takes a deep dive into the highs and lows of Eminem’s iconic career. The 15-time Grammy winner served as a producer on the film, alongside Paul Rosenberg, Stuart Parr, Antoine Fuqua, Tony DiSanto, and David Schiff.
