Nicole Scherzinger shared a laugh-out-loud memory of Prince pulling an unexpected move to grab her attention—by literally hiding behind a bush.
Appearing on Hot Ones on Tuesday (July 15), the Tony-winning star reminisced about the playful moment with the late music legend, whom she described as “my mentor, my friend, and my brother.”
“He’s got a show in Vegas, and I’m bringing my girlfriends, OK?” Scherzinger recalled around the 20-minute mark. “We’re super excited to see the show and support him.” While lounging by the pool ahead of the concert, she suddenly heard a “Psst, psst”—and noticed a bush rustling nearby.
“We see this bush kind of moving … and I’ll be damned, Prince was hiding behind the bush trying to get my attention. I don’t know why,” she laughed. “He was crouched down in full glam, shoulder pads, heels—at noon!”
Reflecting on his impact on her career, she added, “I wouldn’t be here, Sean, without him. He actually came to see me in Cats [in London’s West End] and he was like, ‘You are an analog singer, not a digital singer. Your voice is too big and you need to do music that’s big enough for your voice. And this is your stage, Nicole.’ So, here we are.”
Scherzinger is set to take her final bow this Sunday as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard on Broadway—a role that recently earned her a Tony Award for Best Actress.
