Logic says he keeps his distance from his mother.
The rapper opened up about his strained family ties during his appearance on The Adam Friedland Show on Wednesday (Aug. 20).
He explained that his father, Robert Bryson Hall, was absent for much of his childhood and struggled with drug abuse—later even asking Logic for $1 million when they reunited. But when it came to his mother, Terry Lee Miller, things were no better.
“One of the last times I had spoken to my mom was on my 21st birthday,” Logic shared. “And I hadn’t seen her in a few years. And the thing about my mother is, she’s just a mentally ill person.”
“I’ve definitely relinquished any anger or any of that that I had,” Logic said. “But I hadn’t seen her in a few years since I was probably 17, 18. And the last time I had seen her, she was like covered in blood and naked and screaming and the police were there. It was a whole thing.”
He went on to explain that his mother tried to place the blame for their fractured relationship on his sister, but he found that claim baseless.
“So, I call my mother after having not spoken in a few years. And I’m just like, ‘Look, respectfully, I don’t talk to you because of you and because there is no mutual respect here, and it’s your way or the highway with everything.'”
Logic said the call ended badly, claiming his mother screamed at him and even called him the N-word before hanging up.
This isn’t the first time he’s addressed their troubled past. On his 2012 track “Dear God,” he rapped about a harrowing memory:
“What about the time I was nine and my mama almost murdered me?/ Don’t think I forgot that shit, it still burdens me,” he spit. “Her bare hands tight around my throat/ ‘I can’t breathe’ I screamed, ‘I can’t breathe, Mama/ Don’t you want me, Mama? Don’t you love me, Mama? What the fuck?'”
