Travis Scott Hails Tame Impala’s Deadbeat as the Best Album of the Past Two Years

Travis Scott is giving major props to Tame Impala’s latest album Deadbeat, calling it the best body of work to drop in recent years.

The rapper took to his Instagram Stories on Friday (October 17) to share his thoughts on the new release, posting a screenshot of the album’s Apple Music page with his reaction written across it.

“This is the best album to come out in the last 2 years Kev you went crazy,” he wrote. “Like super crazy. Like bruh, Imma gonna call u soon because I just need to know something bruhhhhhh.”

Scott wrapped up his glowing endorsement with an energetic call to action: “EVERYONE LISTEN, BUY, PLAY, AND LIVE TO THIS.”

The rapper had previously teamed up with Tame Impala on “Skeletons,” one of the standout tracks from his acclaimed Astroworld album. In a 2018 chat with Billboard, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker opened up about what it was like working with Scott.

“I did a lot of sessions with him, actually,” Parker shared. “What’s cool about people like Travis is that they just bring a bunch of people together and see what magic happens. Most of the time, I was just playing my part as a team player.”

“There were times when 10 or even 20 people would be in the room,” he continued. “You could just chill for an hour doing nothing, then something catches your attention, and you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, yeah, plug me in, I’ve got an idea.’ We’d keep going for hours — sometimes until three in the morning.”

“But it’s not really stressful. Well, it’s intense only because it’s the loudest stuff I’ve ever heard,” Parker added. “I’ve never experienced music that loud before, and probably never will. The studios had these massive 12-inch speakers that were literally shaking. The sound was so powerful it made your eardrums buzz — even the hi-hats. After about 30 minutes, your ears kind of adjust just to survive it.”

In a later 2020 interview with The Fader, Parker shared that collaborating with Scott had actually reshaped his creative process.

When asked if any collaborators had influenced his artistry, he replied, “Working with Mike Dean and Travis Scott — Mike Dean being the main producer on Astroworld — was truly inspiring. It helped me see the bigger picture of my work. Those guys are laser-focused on achieving a certain quality and never get hung up on the tiny details.”
