Jim Jones says Mase once asked Jay-Z for cab fare after a failed meeting at Roc-A-Fella Records where they were hoping to secure a record deal.
During an appearance on Artist 2 Artist with Memphis Bleek, Jim recalled the moment, saying, “We get in there, it don’t work out. And on the way out, na Mase asked the na Jay for some cab money back uptown.”
The story left Bleek completely stunned.
“I’m only telling you because I never forgot that shit, because I’m not that type of n***a,” Jones explained. “I would’ve rather walk uptown before I ask these n***s in here for any type of cab money.”
He went on to say that he felt they should have left the meeting with their heads held high, maintaining their dignity and pride — but that changed the moment Mase made the request.
According to Jim, Jay-Z turned him down in typical Hov fashion, responding, “I ain’t got no cab money for you n****s.”
“In my mind, I’m like, ‘We look like suckers walking outta here,’” Jones added.
The full conversation kicks off around the 28-minute mark of the episode.
