Jan. 6 Rioter Files Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit Against Zohran Mamdani

A Jan. 6 rioter has filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit against New York mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani.

In a three-page complaint filed in New York federal court on Nov. Lang claims that comments Mamdani made in 2023—about raising property taxes in higher-value real estate areas—violate equal protection laws and New York’s constitutional mandate for uniform taxation.

Lang’s lawsuit asks the court to declare that New York’s tax policies must remain race-neutral “in purpose and effect” and to block any “racially characterized tax scheme.”

Earlier this year, Lang was pardoned on the first day of Donald Trump’s second term after spending four years in prison for his alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot, though he was never convicted.

In March, Lang announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in Florida, aiming to fill Marco Rubio’s vacated seat. “WE ARE TAKING OVER THE CAPITOL AGAIN,” he wrote on X.

“I’m running really as a symbol of resilience, the American spirit of perseverance, and most importantly, as proof of what faith can do to revive a dead situation—just as God did for his son, Jesus Christ,” Lang told The Guardian.

Though originally from New York, Lang explained to the Miami New Times why he chose Florida: “They love the Jan Sixers,” he said, calling it “the most MAGA state in the country. The patriotic fervor and love for America is stronger here than anywhere else.”

On his campaign website, Lang promises a “100% TRUMP AMERICA AGENDA,” which includes mass deportations, major tax cuts, and sealing the nation’s borders.
