Lauren Boebert Faces Backlash Over Deportation-Themed Halloween Costume

Republican congresswoman Lauren Boebert is facing criticism for her controversial Halloween costume that mocked deportation.

Boebert and her boyfriend, Kyle Pearcy—a real estate broker from Windsor, Colorado—sparked outrage after attending a Halloween party in Loveland, Colorado, on Oct. 31.

For the event, Boebert dressed in a traditional Mexican outfit complete with a sombrero, while Pearcy wore an ICE vest and military fatigues. She also held a chalkboard sign that read, “Mexican Word of the Day: JUICY. Tell me if Juicy Ice coming.”

A source who attended the event told ABC News, “It is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. Even the conservatives [at the party] were in shock. People avoided them.”

Despite the outrage, Boebert hasn’t shown any regret. In a statement, her office dismissed the criticism, saying, “It’s a Halloween costume. Tell our Senators to vote for the CR and open the government. They are choosing to let millions of American families suffer.”

Trisha Calvarese, a Democratic candidate for Colorado’s 4th District, weighed in on X, writing, “Lauren Boebert put more effort into a hateful Halloween party costume than she ever has into serving the people of Colorado’s 4th Congressional District.”

This isn’t the first time Boebert has been at the center of controversy. Back in 2021, she came under fire for comparing Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar to a bomb-carrying terrorist.

Unlike this time, Boebert did issue an apology back then. “I apologize to anyone in the Muslim community I offended with my comment about Rep. Omar,” she said at the time. “I’ve reached out to her office to speak with her directly. There are plenty of policy differences to focus on without this unnecessary distraction.”
