Mariah Carey Scores $92,000 Win in “All I Want For Christmas” Lawsuit

Mariah Carey’s holiday season just got even sweeter after a lawsuit filed against her was thrown out.

According to legal documents, the judge who dismissed the case over her classic hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” also imposed sanctions on the plaintiffs, Andy Stone and Troy Powers, stating the lawsuit lacked merit and emphasizing the need to discourage frivolous legal filings.

As a result, Carey was awarded $92,303.20 in sanctions, with nearly $20,000 more ordered to be paid to other parties involved in the case.

Back in 2023, Stone and Powers sued Carey, alleging there were significant similarities between her song and their own track titled “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” which they claim was recorded in 1989. They further argued that their version received heavy holiday airplay in 1993, a year before Carey released her song in 1994.

The lawsuit closely mirrored a previous case the pair filed in 2022, which was ultimately dropped just five months later.

Carey’s latest legal win comes just days before Christmas, as “All I Want For Christmas Is You” continues to dominate the charts. Billboard reports the song has extended its own record, logging a 21st week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Overall, the track has now spent 78 weeks on the Hot 100, surpassing Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” to become the longest-charting song by a female artist in the chart’s history.
