Rod Wave doesn’t seem too remorseful about brushing off the man who attempted to sell him candy outside a Chicago hotel.
According to XXL, Rod Wave replied with, “Old ah n****,” under an Instagram video shared by chicagocandyboys that showed the rapper slowly walking past the seller as he tried to get him to buy a candy bar.
“You use to be one of my favorite artists until you did me like this I’m out here just tryna hustle for some lil bread to survive I was counting on seeing you to cause you look like the type that a help someone out and you walk right past me like I wasn’t even right there,” the man wrote.
The Instagram page chicagocandyboys later addressed Rod Wave’s comment, sharing a long post on Wednesday explaining that his frustration was about “the principle of the situation and how he did it.”
He said the interaction left him feeling like the rapper believed he was “bigger than the people that help them get to where they at.” He also noted that he expected Rod Wave, given his own background hustling, to understand how it felt to be ignored.
The 24-year-old also took a moment to clear up any confusion about his age after Rod Wave referred to him as an “old ah n****.”
The situation follows comments from Rod Wave’s agent, Andrew Lieber, who claimed in a leaked clip from an upcoming documentary that the rapper wanted the “world to know” he made $2 million for a single show.
