Lil Poppa has passed away at just 25 years old. The Jacksonville rapper, born Janarious Mykel Wheeler, was pronounced dead at 11:23 a.m. ET on Wednesday, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed. TMZ was first to report the news. His cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
Per his Ticketmaster listing, Poppa was slated to take the stage at the Fillmore in New Orleans on March 21. He had most recently dropped his single “Out of Town Bae” on February 13.
In 2022, Lil Poppa inked a deal with Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group (CMG), propelled by the buzz surrounding his Under Investigation mixtape series. The most recent project, Under Investigation 3, arrived in 2022.
Lil Poppa dropped multiple projects in recent years, including Almost Normal Again in 2025. The album delivered tracks like “Bout My Respect” and “Myself Again,” and featured appearances from Yungeen Ace, Mozzy, and others. After its release, he hit the road for the 20-date Almost Normal Again Tour and had earlier teamed up with his “Falling Fast” collaborator Rod Wave on the Last Lap Tour.
