On April 18, a California couple got the surprise of a lifetime when some very unusual visitors showed up—floating in on a blue hot air balloon decorated with gold stars and a crescent moon. At first, the homeowners had no clue what was going on.
Hunter Perrin revealed he was casually watching TV, completely unaware that a hot air balloon had just touched down in his backyard. It wasn’t until a neighbor rang his doorbell to alert him that he rushed outside to witness the unexpected scene for himself.
“I get a doorbell ring and I open the door and the guy goes, ‘They just landed in your backyard!’ I’m like, ‘Uhh what?’” he shared during an interview with ABC News affiliate KABC.
His partner, Jenna Perrin, also recounted the moment: “I heard the flames, but I thought it was somebody that was like, cleaning the inside of their pool. That’s what it sounded like. But then I look out and I’m like, ‘That’s what I heard, it was the flames that I heard.’ And once we saw that it was all smiles and everybody was happy and okay… I’m like, should I make them breakfast?”
The pilot later explained that the wind in the area had completely died down, leaving them unable to move. He had been hovering, waiting for it to pick back up so they could continue the ride, but that never happened. With fuel starting to run low, he had no choice but to make an emergency landing—and their yard, despite being just about 10 feet wide, was the safest option.
Thankfully, no one was injured, and the balloon left the property without any damage. After some time, they were able to lift it back into the air, guide it around to the front of the house, and eventually load it onto a truck for pickup.
