The Weeknd Spotted Having Dinner With The Directors Behind Elden Ring And NieR

The Weeknd was recently seen having dinner with two iconic video game creators responsible for some of the most celebrated titles in gaming.

In photos and clips posted to his alternate Instagram account, @gene.hackerman, The Weeknd shared cheerful moments alongside Hidetaka Miyazaki and Yoko Taro. Miyazaki is the president of FromSoftware and the director behind the massively successful Elden Ring. Meanwhile, Yoko Taro is best known for creating and writing the acclaimed JRPG series NieR.

The meetup caught fans’ attention because The Weeknd has openly shown love for both creators’ work over the years. The singer has previously posted videos of himself playing — and even completing — Elden Ring. More recently, last month, he shared footage of himself reaching the endgame section of NieR: Automata.

It’s unclear what exactly came out of The Weeknd’s dinner with Hidetaka Miyazaki and Yoko Taro, but fans are already speculating about possible collaborations.

One theory revolves around the upcoming Elden Ring adaptation currently in development at A24. The project reportedly has Alex Garland attached as director, alongside actors like Cailee Spaeny, Nick Offerman, Kit Connor, and Jonathan Pryce. Some fans believe The Weeknd could potentially be involved with curating music for the film.

Others think the dinner could hint at something connected to the NieR universe, possibly even a theme song or soundtrack contribution for a future project.

Of course, there may not be any collaboration attached to the meetup at all. The Weeknd has repeatedly shown how passionate he is about gaming, so it’s possible he simply wanted to spend time with creators whose work he genuinely admires and who may inspire future music or visuals.

Back in March, the singer even shared a photo of himself on a call with Yoko Taro, further fueling fan excitement about the connection.

In other Weeknd-related news, the artist recently appeared at the 2026 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, where he presented the Anime of the Year award. The honor ultimately went to My Hero Academia for its final season.

The Weeknd joined a star-studded group of presenters that included Winston Duke, RZA, Young Miko, Rashmika Mandanna, BamBam, Ten, and Ethan Bortnick.
