Kirk Franklin Restrained After Man Tells Him He and His Wife Are Headed to Hell

Kirk Franklin had to be restrained after a man directed disturbing comments toward him and his wife, Tammy Collins.

Over the weekend, the gospel icon was confronted by a man, leading to a tense exchange. Franklin initially tried to calm the situation by offering the man a hug, but the gesture was rejected. Instead, the man repeatedly told him, “You need to repent.”

The confrontation escalated when the man declared, “You and your wife are going to go to hell.” That remark visibly upset Franklin, prompting security to step in and hold him back as another person instructed the man to leave.

The confrontation reportedly took place after Kirk Franklin’s performance at the Gospel on Independence concert at Philadelphia’s Independence Mall was canceled on Sunday because of severe weather.

After the cancellation was announced, Franklin climbed onto the roof of his SUV to greet the crowd as excited fans gathered around, hoping to catch a glimpse of the gospel star.

The 56-year-old appeared to make light of the encounter in a post shared on Instagram.

“I need the weather to repent! LOL!” Franklin wrote.

The post featured clips from his performance in Norfolk, Virginia, over the weekend, along with additional footage of him spending time with fans in Philadelphia.

Franklin was scheduled to headline the annual Wawa Welcome America celebration, which also featured singer Paula Holloway and a choir of more than 100 vocalists from churches across the Philadelphia area. However, according to CBS News, lightning and an approaching storm forced organizers to cut the event short.
