Gunna Looks Back on His Chemistry With Lil Baby on “Drip Too Hard”

The chemistry that powered “Drip Too Hard” was apparently just as natural in the studio as it sounded on the finished track. During Billboard’s Chart History interview, Gunna reflected on making the 2018 hit with Lil Baby, sharing one of his few public remarks about his former collaborator since reports surfaced that the pair had fallen out.

“That song was a no-brainer,” Gunna said. The track came together while the Atlanta rappers were wrapping up their collaborative project, Drip Harder. Producer Turbo created the beat, and Lil Baby had already laid down his verse before Gunna heard it.

“Baby started on this motherf*cker and then, once I heard it, lemme do my part,” he recalled.

According to Gunna, there wasn’t much planning involved. Instead, the two artists naturally built off each other’s energy in the studio as they continued developing the song.

“We kinda just bouncing off of each other,” he explained. “It was already written, just the whole song of us together. It was a good combination, collaboration.”

Gunna’s positive memories of the track did not come with any indication that he and Lil Baby have reconciled. The tension between the former collaborators became public after Gunna accepted an Alford plea in the YSL RICO case and was released from jail in December 2022. Although he denied cooperating against Young Thug, the plea led to accusations from several artists who felt he had broken street codes.

Lil Baby later addressed the situation during a December 2024 interview with Charlamagne Tha God, stating that the two had “no relationship” and ruling out the possibility of making music with Gunna again, even if Young Thug were to request it.

However, those issues were not part of Gunna’s discussion about “Drip Too Hard.” He did not address the accusations or reveal the current state of their relationship. Instead, he focused on giving Lil Baby credit and explaining why their collaboration worked so well. While their personal connection appears to remain complicated, Gunna did not deny the impact of the music they created together.
