NBA YoungBoy is currently married to Jazlyn Mychelle, but one of his past relationships has returned to public conversation following the resurfacing of old security footage.
A video uploaded by AntiGlomar on YouTube appears to show YoungBoy pushing his then-partner Jania Meshell to the ground and dragging her through a hotel hallway in 2018. The newly resurfaced footage is reportedly clearer than earlier versions that circulated online, prompting a response from YoungBoy’s attorney, Jimmy Manasseh.
For those unfamiliar with the case, YoungBoy avoided jail time in connection with the incident in 2019. He initially faced charges of aggravated assault and kidnapping, but later accepted a plea deal and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor simple battery family violence. The Baton Rouge rapper reportedly paid a $1,500 fine and received 12 months of probation.
His attorney, Jimmy Manasseh, addressed the resurfaced footage in a statement to TMZ.
“It was a misdemeanor matter, resolved nearly 10 years ago. I don’t think [it’s a big deal],” he reportedly said. “I believe she requested to drop charge. He was on probation in East Baton Rouge and he was not revoked because of it.”
Meshell had reportedly described the incident as the two simply playing around when requesting that the more serious charges be dropped. However, many fans have continued to criticize the rapper following the resurfacing of the footage. It remains unclear whether YoungBoy will publicly address the situation or choose to leave the matter in the past.
Many fans reacting to the resurfaced footage have compared the situation to Diddy’s case, after hotel security footage also showed him assaulting his then-partner, Cassie. As a result, NBA YoungBoy has faced significant criticism online over the video.
These days, however, NBA YoungBoy appears to be far removed from legal troubles, at least in the United States. He recently told Funny Marco that he is now living in South Korea, a revelation that came as a surprise to many fans. The move could be connected to several factors, including the pressures of fame and a desire for a quieter life away from the chaos.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether Jania Meshell will speak out about the resurfaced footage, which has sparked outrage across social media. Although YoungBoy’s lawyer downplayed the situation, many online have made it clear that his comments have not changed how they view the incident.
