Former Roc-A-Fella co-founder Dame Dash has faced serious financial struggles in recent years. In September 2025, he filed for bankruptcy, a move that ultimately resulted in him losing several of his assets.
Among those assets are his life rights. As a major figure in hip-hop history, Dash’s story could hold significant value, whether it ends up being told through a documentary, biopic, book, or another project.
Last month, the trustee overseeing Dash’s bankruptcy proposed auctioning off his life rights. On Tuesday, Judge Roberta A. Colton approved the proposal, officially setting the auction process in motion.
The bidding will remain open until September 23, with the proceeds going toward Dash’s creditors. The auction begins with a $37,000 opening bid from Everlasting Films, LLC. Whoever ultimately wins will acquire “100 hours of video content, photographs, and memorabilia,” along with “an unreleased, in-development documentary/film project.”
Bids must increase in $10,000 increments, meaning anyone looking to take the top spot would need to come in at $47K. For now, it remains unclear how much interest Dash’s life rights will attract, though it seems unlikely that the current $37K opening bid will be anywhere near the final sale price.
Charlamagne Tha God previously voiced interest in purchasing the rights to Dame Dash’s story, though his comments appeared to include a fair amount of trolling.
At the end of the day, Dash’s situation is a troubling one and serves as a cautionary tale. Seeing someone unable to profit from the story of his own life is, in many ways, a particularly sad reality.
