Marriage continues to suit Eve and Maximillion Cooper.
The Grammy-winning rapper, 47, tied the knot with the 54-year-old English entrepreneur in June 2014, following three years of dating. The couple now lives in London with their 4-year-old son Wilde Wolf. Eve is also a stepmother to Cooper’s four children from a previous relationship: Jagger, Lotus, Mini and Cash.
Eve says she and Cooper “don’t really” have rules in their marriage, but they continue to support each other personally and professionally. “I was already mid-thirties by the time we got married, and this is his second marriage,” she says. “I think we both came into the relationship fully ourselves.”
“We enjoy seeing each other do what we love,” adds the Philadelphia-born “Satisfaction” musician about the founder of the Gumball 3000 motor rally. “We step back when we need to, we come forward when we need to, and we try to be as honest with each other as we can.”
“That really helps us,” she notes. “Just allowing each other to be who they are and also just being really communicative and honest when you need to be.”
Cooper’s career is very different from Eve’s work as a rapper, but he has shown up to many of her performances over the years to support her and considers himself a fan. “He loves it,” she says. “It is nice having a partner that really celebrates you doing the thing that you love.”
The contrast between Eve and Cooper’s careers has actually helped them build a unique connection as a couple.
“You can step back a little bit, and also you have something to talk about,” she explains. “Not to say that people who are in the same industries don’t, but I do think it’s nice when you come together and can explain, or there are questions that might come from someone who’s not in your same industry, and you have interesting discussions about it.”
Last month, Eve partnered with Spotify and Depop for an event at the Hollywood Premiere Motel in Los Angeles, where she performed hits such as “Who’s That Girl?” and “Tambourine.”
The celebration came just months after the 25th anniversary of Eve’s sophomore album, 2001’s Scorpion. In October, she’ll head out on a U.K. and European tour to mark the milestone, with the possibility of adding U.S. dates down the line.
“We’ll see,” says Eve, who hopes to remain near London as Wilde prepares to start “big school” soon. “It might have to come to America in the spring or summer of next year.”
