Another movie has already landed on Kid Cudi’s schedule before audiences have even seen his directorial debut. The rapper and actor is set to direct and star in Wrong Number, an upcoming horror thriller that also features Barbie Ferreira. According to Deadline, production is currently underway in Los Angeles. Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, also wrote the screenplay and will create the film’s score through his Mad Solar production company.
The story centers on a successful self-help author whose latest romance takes a disturbing turn. What initially appears to be a promising new relationship soon descends into a nightmare involving a stalker and a murder accusation. Lucy Barrett, Dewayne Perkins, Clifton Powell, and Laura Harrier are also part of the cast.
Wrong Number will mark Cudi’s second feature-length directorial effort. Earlier this year, he wrapped production on Doe, a drama he also wrote and stars in, which follows a man dealing with homelessness and addiction over a 24-hour period in Los Angeles. Deadline previously reported that Mark Webber, Leah McNamara, Brandon Scott and Brandon Perea are also featured in the film.
Cudi first teased the follow-up project in August without disclosing its title. At the time, he described it as a horror thriller that would also incorporate comedy and revealed that he planned to release both films in 2027. Acting has also become an increasingly consistent part of Cudi’s career, with recent credits including Ti West’s X franchise and Knuckles. He also recently completed work on the supernatural thriller Pathetic Fallacy, starring alongside Jessica Rothe, Travis Fimmel and Natasha Lyonne.
Ferreira, widely recognized for her roles in Euphoria and Jordan Peele’s Nope, will star opposite Cudi as the film’s other lead. While Wrong Number does not yet have an official release date, Cudi has indicated that he is targeting late summer 2027 for his second directorial feature.
