Kelly Rowland is putting fans on high alert about a scammer trying to finesse money from her supporters.
The Destiny’s Child star jumped on her Instagram Story to expose a sketchy message from a fake account, @iam.kellyrowland, that’s been hitting up fans.
The scammer’s message was hilariously amateur: “Hey, this is Kelly from Destiny’s Child. I lost my credit card and I need money for a plain ticket so I can fly to your city to perform. Can you send me some money?”
The scammer got extra bold, following up with “Hi, this is Beyoncé.”
Kelly clapped back with some sass, writing on the screenshot, “Be careful out here” and “Fake AF!” She couldn’t help but roast their spelling too: “And don’t you think I know how to spell P-L-A-N-E!”
This type of celebrity impersonation scam isn’t new – it’s actually become a whole thing online. According to Know Your Meme.com, these fake DMs and texts usually try to squeeze money or personal info out of fans, often dropping famous catchphrases to seem legit. The trend kicked off back in 2021 with a DaBaby scam that blew up on Reddit.
While Kelly isn’t hitting the road anytime soon, fans did get to see a real Destiny’s Child moment at Beyoncé’s Renaissance film premiere in Los Angeles last November. The whole squad showed up – Kelly, Michelle Williams, LeToya Luckett, and LaTavia Roberson – rocking chrome and black fits to match the “cozy opulence” dress code. The documentary even caught their heartwarming backstage reunion in its trailer.
