Benzino opens up about his upcoming role as a grandpa.
His daughter Coi Leray, 27, and Trippie Redd, 25, dropped their baby news as 2024 kicked off.
Though they haven’t been close lately, Benzino seemed happy while chatting on the We in Miami Podcast.
“I’m stepping into grandfather territory,” said the 59-year-old, grinning. “Found out the same time everyone else did.”
He added, “This will help her mature. Hopefully it does, because she’ll experience parenthood firsthand. She’ll understand what I went through.”
The media mogul discussed getting to know his future grandkid.
“Our story’s been a bit of a mess online,” he confessed. “Nobody got what was happening with me and my daughter before she hit it big in music.”
“That baby’s definitely gonna know their granddad,” he stated firmly. “I need to pass on my wisdom, regardless of our drama. That’s separate from the grandkid situation. She’ll want him to learn those core values – that comes from granddad and Trippie’s folks too.”
He also mentioned wanting to reach out to Trippie Redd, which wasn’t always the case.
“Didn’t care to meet him before. Wasn’t interested in meeting guys just dating my daughter. But a baby changes things, so I’m down now,” he shared.
“Want to congratulate him and clear the air – no hard feelings,” Benzino said of Redd. “Granddad’s right here, with nothing but love.”
Back in May, Leray hit X saying she’s done with her dad and his antics.
While things were smooth during her Trendsetter release, it all fell apart in 2023 when Leray called out Benzino for being “jealous” of her success – which he denies.
“I need everyone to know I’m completely done with my father’s drama,” Leray posted on X. “Haven’t spoken to him in over a year and I’m not okay with any of these interviews. Don’t respect his moves and want zero connection, so don’t think of me when you see him.”
She dropped truth: “Blood ties don’t equal family. True family’s built on loyalty, boundaries, respect, guidance, love, patience, and support.”
